This is just a partial list of historical moments from 2010 that a person living during this time-frame will never forget. Let’s begin with what is known as one of the worst environmental disasters in history, the April 20th oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. An oil rig exploded and sunk 50 miles off the Louisiana coast. The explosion left 11 people dead and more than 200,000 gallons of oil spewed into the sea. The oil spill caused the U.S. government to focus more attention on off-shore drilling and exposed gaps in how drilling regulations were being enforced.

One of the most riveting historical moments from 2010 was the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners that were trapped underground for 68 days. Deemed the longest underground nightmare in history, the trapped miners were all rescued safely and much quicker than experts had expected. The operation went off without a hitch as the world held its breath and watched the miners being lifted one by one through a smooth-walled shaft of rock to complete safety.

Next is one of the deadliest earthquakes in world history, the 2010 Haitian earthquake. It was catastrophic with an estimated death toll of more than 100,000 and left over a million people homeless. The earthquake caused major damage in Port-au-Prince. Several landmark buildings were totally destroyed or severely damaged including the Presidential Palace. The world pulled together to send funds, rescue teams, engineers, and support personnel to the ailing country. These historical moments from 2010 will never be forgotten.
